Seawind Catamaran’s Annual Rally series hosted by Multihull Central had its final race last week on the beautiful waters of Moreton Bay. The series which is held as separate rallies in the Whitsundays, Brisbane and Sydney is open to all Seawind catamarans either chartered or privately owned.
The hotly contested events consist of racing with a number of social functions and are the highlight of the sailing season for many Seawind owners and their crew. Not only do they allow owners to gauge and improve their performance, but they are a great social occasion with lots of fun, tales told and lasting friendships formed.
Brisbane’s Seawind Rally was held on the picturesque Moreton Bay mid November with the fleet enjoying mixed conditions. Friday afternoon’s Test & Tune sail had most of the fleet out enjoying the beautiful Queensland weather before heading back to Wynnum Manly Yacht Club for a BBQ and drinks.
Saturday woke to a grey overcast sky and the heavens opened up at the start of the first race placing a blanket on the breeze and becalming the fleet. The race was shortened and lunch held before heading off on the second race in better but still quiet conditions. The presentation was held back at the yacht club that night with a three course dinner, live jazz and a generous bar tab. The overall winner was Alan Hunter on his Seawind 1160, Talisker, following up on his win in this years Hamilton Island Race Week.
As with all the Seawind Catamaran events held throughout the world, everyone had a great weekend of sailing, a lot of fun, caught up with old friends, made new friends and came away looking forward to next years Rallies.
