Byjingo is a well-regarded offering. She is hull number 23 of approximately 50 built. Of the three interior designs Byjingo is the “Family” 4 cabin layout. The current layout provides sleeping for 6 with the aft port cabin currently set as a workshop which can easily be reinstated to sleeping cabin if this is preferred. Her current owners have sailed Byjingo since 2009. They have done a good job maintaining her. Their care is evidenced throughout this catamaran.
The Yanmar 29HP engines connect to SD20 saildrives which power the 16 inch 3 blade Flexofold folding propellors. This combination provides good drive through the water and makes Byjingo easy to manage when docking. The engines consume approximately 1.5 litres at 2,200 rpm. Access to the engine bays is well elevated from water level and there is good access to all parts of the engines when maintenance is required. The 2.9m Swift RIB with bow locker and Mercury 5HP outboard is easily launched and recovered from the transom davits. Appropriate safety equipment is included.
The navigation equipment includes B&G chart plotter with C-Map (Aus & NZ), GPS, AIS, Radar, Sounder, Autopilot, VHF & HF radios and a sat phone. Byjingo can be sailed from either the port side cockpit helm or from the navigation desk in the saloon. There is a near new Rocna anchor with 85m of 10mm chain on the bow and a Fortress FX55 with 12m of chain and 66m of nylon warp is also on board. The Lofrans Tigress windlass can be operated from either the cockpit or the bow. There are 6 Harken winches – 4 located in the cockpit and 2 at the mast. Byjingo’s rigging including all wires, halyards and turnbuckles was updated in 2020. In addition to the 73sqm fully battened main sail and relatively unused 27sqm reefable jib there is a spinnaker in a sock and an MPS on Facnor furler. There is 300W of solar fitted to the tender davit plus an AirX wind generator to top up the 450Ah of low maintenance house batteries. The 12V/800W Mass Sine inverter is by Mastervolt. The engines have separate 75Ah start batteries.
The large cockpit is a good blend of space from which to sail Byjingo, whilst also providing comfortable seating around the cockpit table and large amounts of storage. Even with this, the cockpit’s best feature is the sense of security and safety that it provides whilst underway. Inside the saloon the L shaped lounge is easily accessed with the navigation desk offset to port. There is a lot of practical storage including a lazy susan built into the saloon table pedestal. The galley has a twin tub stainless sink with both fresh and saltwater supply. The 130 litre bar style fridge is supported by a 39 litre Engel fridge/freezer in the workshop cabin. The three-burner stove and SMEV oven are near new. The natural ventilation is effective throughout and can be supplemented by the 12V fans in the accommodation areas. There are two bathrooms – port side including a new Airhead composting toilet and starboard with separate shower in the bow. There is a lot of storage opportunity throughout.
Everything that a buyer might reasonably expect such as documentation, manuals, circuit diagrams, water maker, emergency tiller, spare parts, tools, fuel drums, mooring lines, sheets and blocks, insect screens etc are on board.
