Moreton Bay Seawind Corsair Rally 2025

December 12, 2025
Seawind Catamarans has a proud history of supporting its owners in many ways, one of the more notable being the conduct of rallies and regattas all over the world. In Australia these have occurred in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Whitsundays and Brisbane.
The Brisbane event has a long history. Indeed it was an an event in 2008 that I was invited to crew on a boat, Next Phase, and as a result ordered my first Seawind. So in 2025, after a false start earlier in the year due to adverse weather and a number of other issues we held a very successful regatta on 15, 15 and 16 November. The event was the product of an enthusiastic group of owners.
A great field of 16 boats entered. Almost the full range of Seawinds were there, including a Seawind 1200 as well as Seawind 1000, Seawind 1160 Lite and Seawind 1160 Deluxe, Seawind 1190 and a couple of Seawind 1250s.
The crews all gathered together on Friday night at the impressive facilities at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. A meet and greet drinks and finger food session, Sponsored by SEAWIND CATAMRANS. This offered the crews an chance to catch up and for some of the folk newer to the brand, meet a number of like minded sailors. Much information about boat setup was exchanged and old friedndships renewed as well as new ones being forged.
After the meet and greet the group adjourned to the RQYS Auditorium for an event briefing. After welcoming the crews, a presentation by video was made by Brent Vaughan of Multihull Central providing most folk with their first exposure to the new, impressive and extraordinary value for money Seawind 1160XL. Feedback on the new boats was very positive.
So to Saturday where two races were held, the first from Manly to Peel Island and the Second from Peel Island to Caniapa where the fleet anchored overnight. The races were a handicap start utilising data from previous events as well as the local Wednesday afternoon race series.
Race one was a delightful combination of close reaching and running in excellent sailing breezes on flat seas. Phase I, a Seawind 1160 Deluxe narrowly took the honours but the fleet was reasonably close together. Lunch was taken, and the next race commenced, but not until some handicap adjustments were made.
Of course whilst all the competitors enjoyed the chance to test themselves against other similar boats, the key drawcard for the event is the camaraderie and social interaction. And there was plenty of that on Saturday evening. After anchoring at Caniapa passage, the crescent adjourned to the excellent facilities ashore at the RQYS Caniapa base. Drinks were taken food eaten and prizes presented:
1st overall – Seawind jacket – Velella – Nicola Udy (Seawind 1200)
2nd overall – Muir’s voucher – Meltemi – Steve Christie (Seawind 1160 Deluxe)
3rd place overall – Chandlery Voucher – Tonic – Tilman Rauche (Seawind 1160 Deluxe)
Most consistent – Chandlery Vouchr- Fergus Christie (Seawind 1160 Deluxe)
Most improved – Gear bag – Taylor Made – Ken Stuart (Seawind 1190)
And every boat received an amazing prize for entering, a Voucher for $10000 off any new Seawind.
Sunday saw a race/cruise back to Manly in stronger conditions. A great time was had by all The committee and crews would all like to thank Seawind, Multihull Central and Barracouta Sails for their support. The next event is already in planning.
