Multihull Central hosts the inaugural Mini Outremer Cup on Sydney Harbour to celebrate a historic year for Outremer in Australia. What a year it has been for Outremer in Australia. Firstly making their Australian debut with at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, then a new Outremer 5X and 51 ordered and finally to cap off the year, the first Outremer regatta in the Southern Hemisphere. On Saturday the 27th of September, Australian distributors Multihull Central invited the new owners and existing Outremer owners currently in Australia to an exclusive match race up Sydney Harbour and back, onboard two identical Outremer 49’s, “Lucia” and “Alidade”. Beautiful but light conditions made both teams work hard tactically up the harbour, with daggerboards down and pointing comfortably at 30 degrees on the breeze, boat speed was well matched between the two blue water cruising boats. Reaching back down…

This year was an exciting rally with the battle of old 1200 and new 1250 forty footers and 1160 newbie surprising themselves with results amongst the leaders. Weather was 10 to 25Kn from the South East with one day lost to a strong wind warning and necessary rerouting. Overall Rally Winners were Peter Backhouse and Rosanna Avenia on their private Seawind 1200 Duet. Overall Rally Winner takes race position, social participation and vessel age allowance into account. Duets achievement is even more remarkable considering she blew out her main in the second race and the rest of the 40ft fleet class gave her a sporting chance sailing with one reef in. Race Winners were Keith and Barbara White in their syndicated Seawind 1250 Reflection. They took line honours in every race despite continual pressure from the rest of the fleet. Reflection was first to…
Outremer Yachts made their Australian debut at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in 2014 with their iconic Outremer 49 design, previous winner of the European Yacht of the Year and a ground breaking design for the 30 year old French shipyard. The Outremer 49 on display has recently sailed from France to New Zealand, and then to Australia just recently to attend the Sanctuary Cove and Sydney Boat Shows this year. Owners Mark & Lillian Mellsop-Melssen were thrilled by their blue water experience onboard, as Mark commented “The boat handles blue water very well, and 240 miles a day is not a big deal with the right weather conditions.” Mark will be at the boat show also to give an owners experience along with an Outremer factory representative. Outremer have established a name for themselves as builders of exceptionally high quality blue water performance…

Multihull Central’s Brent Vaughan tries some big wave surfing onboard a Turrissmo 9 catamaran “Flyer” for the 18th annual Mega Multihull regatta on Sydney’s Botany Bay. (Photo by Antony Edwards) With a trip to the Seawind / Corsair factory in Asia and Outremer factory in the South of France scheduled immediately after Easter, I was quickly running out of time to organise a boat to race in Kurnell Cat Club’s Mega Multihull regatta that we had again sponsored over the Easter weekend. But a quick call to some old sailing mates, Anthony Edwards and Greg Wyers a day before the regatta got the kind of stop-everything-at-the-drop-of-a-hat response I was looking for. At the break of dawn before racing commenced that Saturday, we were motoring out from the Multihull Central marina on Sydney Harbour onboard a Malcolm Tennant designed Turrissimo 9 sports cruising catamaran named…

We need your support to approve the completion of our Multihull service centre at Rozelle Bay, Sydney. Despite a DA being approved in 2011 for Seawind Catamarans to build a one-of-a-kind multihull service centre, featuring a cafe & restaurant, kayak storage, sailing school, office space and workshops, Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) Department are preventing Seawind from completing the project. Seawind has already invested a great deal in the site, transforming it with a new sandstone sea wall and multihull marina, ideal for the shallow end of this Bay. It now wants to continue the development to create a beautiful and functional facility that will be an asset for the inner west of Sydney and the boating industry in general, providing employment and a one of a kind facility the for the international multihull community. We ask for your support to improve Rozelle Bay…
